Title of Lesson: RSVP, comments, and Wiki page update.

ESL Standard 5: Student will demonstrate cross-cultural knowledge and understanding.

Objectives:
Student will be able to:
  • Identify and demonstrate the use of accurate past and present tenses of regular and irregular verbs in both oral and written language.
  • Identify and accurately use terms related to planning a party in both oral and written language.
  • Enhance their word processing and computer/Internet skills by using various technologies to complete assignment.
  • Comment and respond appropriately and accurately to questions and comments made by classmates.
  • Identify and discuss traditions of American themed parties and events to enhance their understanding and knowledge of the American culture.

Anticipatory Set:
The teacher will review the topics that were selected from each student in the party brochure. The teacher will then ask students to log into evite and count how many guests are attending their parties.

Procedures:
Introduction (9 minutes)
  • Teacher welcomes student.
  • Students share and discuss their questions and comments about the American themed party brochure, as well as share their own personal experiences with the class.
  • Teacher asks students to get together with their partner.
  • Students will be asked to finish formatting their Wiki pages at the end of class.
  • On evite.com students will count the number of guests that are attending their party.
  • The students will then be asked to log into wallwisher and post how many guests are attending their parties.

Activity 1 (16 minutes) Wiki page update and review
  • Students will finish and update their wiki pages with who’s coming, number of guests that are attending, and will create one announcement for their guests.
  • Students will read through their entire wiki pages and check for correct spelling, punctuation, and tense.

Activity 2 (17 minutes) Party comments and responses
  • Students will review the Wiki pages of the parties that they are attending and in their partners discuss one thing that they like about each party.
  • Students will click on the link to each party’s Wallwisher, and post their comment. Such as the menu, agenda, or type of party. [Focus-Present Tense]
  • All students will be asked to read the posts from their guests and respond to the comments posted on their own Wallwisher, with a reminder from the teacher to focus on tense, spelling, and punctuation.

Closure: (8 minutes)
  • In party pairs students will write 4-6 sentences about their party and incorporate the comments from their guests.

Evaluation:
Assessment will be conducted during class by checking for appropriate and responses to questions and ability to format their Wiki pages. The students’ performance and participation will be monitored by the teacher, and assistance will be provided as needed. The teacher will check the students’ posts and comments for errors and a grade will be given.
